Mikey, thanks for your comment. You're right about there not being decent anti-virus freeware for mobile; but then again, when it comes to anti-virus I usually find you get what you pay for. Nevertheless, before we even get to the anti-virus software, I think Android has to consider increasing its vetting (read that as "do ANY") of apps uploaded to its app store...and not just Android. As I've noted in previous blogs, there should be some form of certification process for mobile apps before they can be added to app stores so as to eliminate vulnerabilities used to breach security or which result in malfunctions. This would also weed out old vulnerabilities like the Android data-leak vulnerability revealed in March that was left over from Google's "Froyo" operating system.

Android´s most plain advantage over iPhone, at least from the customer´s point of view, is the presence of almost any sort of app and the endless possibility in developing new ones. Of course the downside is the one illustrated by your article. As far as I know, there are no good anti virus software for mobile on the market right now, at least free ones. So that may bring about some interesting developments, should Android´s growth continue at the current rate (with malware closely following!).

I should say that this is a great article.

As an Android user I very much appreciate a piece devoted to my chosen platform. The

competition between iOS and Android should get very interesting in 2012, and I look

forward to more insightful journalism like this!
